Take a guided tour of this house-museum which preserves the immaterial legacy left behind by the poet to Extremadura.
The landscape surrounding Guijo de Granadilla, its roads, dehesas and places like Fuente del Vaquero or the Cristu hermitage captured the spirit of the poet who referenced them in his poetry. The town was the inspiration behind the voice that resonates in the poetry collection Extremeñas.
A visit to the house of the poet José María Gabriel y Galán in Guijo de Granadilla is a fascinating journey into the life of the artist. Although born in the province of Salamanca, he is considered one of the greatest advocates of Extremaduran poetry. A family man who was very religious, he was a fervent proponent of the Castúo dialect.
The two-story home showcases his personal belongings and pays tribute to the poet’s most celebrated works. Much like the style of his poetry, this intimate tribute to the poet is steeped in a rustic, rural atmosphere.
