A Roman city founded in the 1st century B.C. on the site of an ancient Vettone settlement. At the height of its splendour, it was one of the most important cities in the region of Extremadura. There is also an interpretation centre with objects found in the area on display and detailed information about the history and culture of this ancient settlement.
In addition to the Arch of Cáparra, there are other archaeological remains at the site, such as parts of the wall, the Roman forum, the baths, the amphitheatre and some residential buildings. These remains bear witness to what it was like to live in this city more than 2,000 years ago.
Next to the ruins of the Roman site is the Interpretation Centre of the Roman City of Cáparra, which tells the story of this remarkable historic site. Be sure to stop into the Centre as part of your visit to the site.
