General information
WE RECOMMEND...

Hiking the Vía de la Plata for an exciting and unforgettable three-day experience.

Three days filled with authentic experiences you won’t forget. During the first day you’ll explore the northern part of the Ambroz Valley, from Baños de Montemayor to Aldeanueva del Camino. Your second day will take you from Segura del Toro to Jarilla and the surrounding area. Finally, to the south of Ambroz-Cáparra you’ll discover the trains that take you from Villar de Plasencia to the ancient Roman city of Cáparra.

Your journey begins in the northern part of the Ambroz Valley, in Baños de Montemayor. Walk or bike up to the La Estación lookout for awesome views of the valley below. Another option is to explore the area on the back of a beautiful horse. But if speed is your thing, take the Vía Verde de la Plata downhill on a bike. Pedal through stunning villages and breathtaking overlooks, and don’t miss a stop in the charming town of Hervás. You can also take the Eurovelo Route, which is specially designed for cycle tourism.

Your adventure continues in the afternoon with a visit to the village of Aldeanueva del Camino, where you’ll follow the trail that leads to the Fresneda Cork Oak, a Noble Tree.

After an action-packed first day, you’ll start day 2 in Aldeanueva del Camino, following the trail to the jewel in the crown of the Vía de la Plata: the Roman City of Cáparra. For the most meaningful experience, you’ll arrive in the city as a pilgrim and take a guided tour in the morning. In the afternoon, make the most of your time in Cáparra with a trip to the ecological dehesa – a fascinating experience for adults and children alike.

End your day with a gazing at the star-filled sky from one of the “Good Night Extremadura” lookouts in this ancient Roman city. Remember to book your visit in advance.

On the last day of your stay you’ll start by visiting Villar de Plasencia, strolling through its streets, visiting its churches and hermitages, or walking along the old cattle track. For those who want fully immerse themselves in the local culture, adults and children alike can become goat herders for a day – feeding the goats or participating in a cheese-making workshop. From here, as you continue to move southward, you’ll cap off your journey with some ecotourism. Whether you choose to explore on foot, by bicycle, or on horseback, you’ll follow in the footsteps of pilgrims who once traversed these lands along the Mozarabic Way of St. James and the Vía de la Plata.

We recommend a stop at the Oliva de Plasencia dehesa, where Spanish fighting bulls are raised with dedication and excellence. It’s a unique experience that will leave a lasting impression.

And that’s our recommendation for three unforgettable days exploring all that the Vía de la Plata has to offer as it winds through Ambroz-Cáparra. Whether you’re travelling solo or with a companion, you’ll want to come back again and again to uncover more hidden treasures that will stay with you forever.
