Discover the many facets of olive oil – as a way of life, a source of nourishment, and a beauty product – on a guided tour with tastings through the centre of town.
This interpretation centre conveys to visitors the importance of olives and the oil production process in a pleasant and educational way. The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the culture of olive oil, its history and its roots in the villages of northern Cáceres.
The space, run by one of the families with the longest olive-growing tradition in the province, examines the culture of olive oil and how it is produced, stored and transported. Terms like “cántaro”, “chiquero” “maquila” of “encapachar” – now in disuse – reappear to shed light on the traditional methods of the first producers who crafted olive oil to spread on bread and thereby save the people of Marchagaz and neighbouring towns from going hungry.
The exhibition highlights the Manzanilla Cacereña, an olive variety that produces an oil that is smooth on the palate but gradually intensifies with each taste. Visitors who choose to explore this remarkable space will get to taste it for themselves.
