“With their modern constructions, the Romans do nothing but spoil the landscape!”, exclaimed Asterix.
We don’t agree with the Gaul! There are four Roman bridges you can visit in Aldeanueva del Camino, although they are not the original structures. Wade across the bridges in Aldeanueva del Camino and observe the differences.
One of the bridges crosses over the Garganta Buitrera but differs from the original structure due to foundation work carried out at a later date. The second one crosses the Ambroz River near the remains of what used to be the bullring. It consists of two semicircular arches with voussoirs, indicating that it was likely rebuilt in the 15th century.
The third, known as the Puente de Romanillos, crosses the bed of the San Andrés gorge located along the Vía de la Plata Roman road heading north, where the N-630 highway now runs.
Finally, of the original structure of the Puente de las Doncellas, only an abutment and a section of the vault remain.
