Climb up to the Church of St. Mary of Aguas Vivas, see the remaining parts of the castle, and marvel at the views of Hervás.
The church was built in the 13th century in the highest part of the town of Hervás in what was previously a castle. The location made it a strategic point of defence.
Made of masonry and granite ashlar, it features a single nave with a barrel vault and two chapels. The main entrance is the work of Simón Pereda. Inside, the central niche of the main altar’s retable houses the Virgin of the Assumption, flanked by St. Peter and St. Paul on either side.
When the area surrounding the church was restored, an overlook was created that offers fantastic views of downtown Hervás and the valley.
