Learn about the traditional method of building a wolf trap using the dry stone technique, where no binding material is used between the different layers.
Transhumance played an important role in the livestock tradition of La Garganta and the surrounding area. To protect their livestock, shepherds built this ancient trap to prevent the loss of their animals and to keep themselves and the local population safe. Throughout history, the relationship between humans and wolves has always been a challenging one.
The ruse begins by placing pieces of fresh meat or even a live animal to lure the wolves into the pit. Once inside, they could never get out because the walls were too high.
