Start your visit to the Jewish Quarter of Hervás at the oldest medieval entrance to the town, which bore witness to the transit of merchants and travellers along the Vía de la Plata.
Built in the 14th century and connecting the old Vía de la Plata with Hervás, it was considered the only way to get into the town.
The structure consists of a single arch made of granite ashlar masonry, with abutments at each end. A notable feature is the carved stone figure, slightly worn by time, representing Alonso Sánchez, one of the town’s key benefactors, on its parapet.
The original structure remains standing today and vehicles can still pass through it.
