Culture in four seasons

Learn about the history of the converts in Hervás; relive the Roman past of Baños de Mayor at Termarium; take part in the Magical Autumn activities and discover the secrets of its festivals and traditions. This is a place where theatre, parades, music, sports and outdoor activities coexist with the most traditional festivals.

Every spring, Baños de Montemayor relives its Roman past during the Termarium festival. The locals take to the streets to commemorate their history and show what it was like to live in a Roman villa in the first century AD. The event features period settings, guided tours of the Baños de Montemayor Spa, a Roman Tapas Route, a Roman camp, a gladiator school, traditional Roman games, and theatrical performances where locals reenact comedies by Terence and Plautus. It’s a tribute to imperial Rome at the start of the spa season.

Autumn is the most colourful season in the Ambroz Valley. Its lush forests and mountains take on the multicoloured tones of the season and the seasonal fruits. It’s the perfect time of year for “Magical Autumn”, an annual event that has been declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest, bringing a vibrant array of cultural, sporting, and gastronomic events to the local villages.

Concerts, hiking, cycling, astro-tourism, magic, sport, gastronomy… more than 70 activities to choose from.

Hervás has been hosting the Festival of the Converts since 1997. Experience first-hand what it was like for two cultures and communities as different as the Jews and Christian to live together.

Did you know?

The Festival of the Converts is a play performed by local actors from the town of Hervás. Every year, they lovingly and painstakingly put on an excellent performance that audiences will not soon forget. But that’s not all. There are other activities such as concerts, lectures, tastings, and guided tours. Save the date!
