The thermal waters of the Ambroz-Cáparra region have played an important role in the lives of the residents since Roman times. Military leaders, priests and Roman officials recognised and took advantage of their properties. Pamper yourself and indulge in these healing waters just as the Romans did two thousand years ago.
The ancient baths have left a tangible legacy in the form of buildings, some of which date back to the Roman era. The most important part of the Roman baths at Baños de Montemayor is the thermal spring. The circular space with skylights and beautiful carved decoration dates back to the Roman era.
Next door is the spa museum housed in a grand hall featuring a barrel-vaulted ceiling adorned with lunettes – a blend of craftsmanship from the 17th and 19th centuries. These later colonial style additions feature elegant cast-iron grilles and exquisitely carved marble bathtubs, enhancing the functional space with aesthetic refinement.
Given the historic and artistic importance of this spa, it was designated a Cultural Heritage Asset in 1995.
